People will be notified about the status of their proposals by February 20th. Festival is March 27-29.
Proposal Categories – Must be a Current Society Member to Submit a Proposal*

Proposals will be considered in six categories:
- Solo performance – with or without piano, guitar, harp or prerecorded sounds
- Chamber music performance (5 or fewer players)
- Low flutes choir (6 or more players)
- Workshops
- Lecture/demo
- Panel discussion
One person may submit a proposal in up to four categories with a limit of one submission per category.
Proposal Materials
ALL PERFORMANCES at the Festival will be via a video link such as YouTube. Audio links only are not as effective for such an hours long event. Have the information ready to go before you submit the proposal form. There is no option to save and return later. The form is short answer entry with the option to upload PDFs. If you prefer to submit your proposal in PDF form, please put “see PDF” in the corresponding short answer boxes.
Performances
- Title(s), movements if any, performer(s), composer/arranger and their dates, publisher, timing.
- An audio or video recording (for example: YouTube link, sound file) of you or your group, preferably playing the piece(s) you would like to perform at the Festival or, a comparable work. A video link will be required for the Festival itself.
Workshops/Lecture Demos/Panel Discussion
- Title
- Brief description of content
- Brief description of previous similar presentations
- Names of any other people involved in your event
Detailed Proposal Requirements
Solo Performance – Proposals will be limited to 15 minutes or less of music. This category includes one low flutes performer with or without piano, harp, guitar or prerecorded sounds. Duets with all other instruments please submit as chamber music.
- Include ACCURATE timings with your submission, as well as title, individual movements if any, composer and composer’s dates, arranger if applicable, and publisher.
- Performances or arrangements of pieces originally for c flute or other instruments are allowed.
- Pieces that include short c flute sections (<20% of the piece) are allowed.
- Include a sound file or link to a video made within the last year of the pieces you want to perform or otherwise accurately represent your abilities. Video is required at the time of the Festival.
Chamber Music Performance – Proposals will be limited to 20 minutes or less of music. At least 50% of the flutes in the group must be a low flute. For example one alto, one c flute and harp would be acceptable.
- What is the name of your group? What are the names of the people in your group?
- Include ACCURATE timings with your submission, as well as the title, individual movements if any, composer and composer’s dates, arranger if applicable, and publisher.
- Arrangements of pieces originally for c flute or other instruments are allowed.
- Performers who are not low flutes players will not need to join the Society or pay the Festival fee.
- Include a sound file or link to a video made within the last year of the pieces you want to perform or otherwise accurately represent your abilities. Video is required at the time of the Festival.
Low Flutes Choir – Proposals will be limited to 25 minutes or less of music. 50% or more of the flutes in the group must be low flutes.
- What is the name of your group? Who is the conductor?
- Include ACCURATE timings with your submission, as well as title, individual movements if any, composer and composer’s dates, arranger if applicable and, publisher.
- Arrangements of pieces originally for c flute or other instruments are allowed.
- Include a sound file or link to a video made within the last year of the pieces you want to perform or otherwise accurately represent the abilities of the group. Video is required at the time of the Festival.
- Provide a list of performers in the choir and the instruments they will play.
- C flute players involved in the performance will not need to join the ILFS or pay the Festival fee.

Workshops – these events will be live and can cover any topic related to low flutes and involve audience participation. Workshops will be limited to 25 minutes or less in length.
- What is your workshop topic?
- Describe your workshop in four sentences or less.
- Include a brief description of previous workshops you have led.
- Any handouts will need to be sent to our email two weeks ahead of the Festival so we can share them with the participants.
Lecture/demo – these events will be live and can cover any topic related to low flutes. Workshops will be 25 minutes or less in length.
- What is your topic?
- Describe your lecture/demo in four sentences or less.
- Include a brief description of previous lecture/demos you have led.
- Any handouts will need to be sent to our email two weeks ahead of the Festival so we can share them with the participants.
Panel Discussion – A moderator can propose a discussion related to low flutes. These panels will be no more than 25 minutes long. These events will be live.
- What is your topic?
- List the two to four invited guests who will be participating.
- Describe the focus of your workshop in four sentences or less.
- The moderator will provide copies of any handouts to our email at least two weeks before the Festival.

Individuals, low flutes players in chamber groups and the person submitting a proposal for a flute choir must be members of the Society when they submit their proposals. If your choir proposal is accepted and you attend, all low flutes players in your group will be required to join the Society. Membership is $45US for people 22 years of age and older. Student membership for those 21 and younger is $30US. The Three-Day Festival fee is $40US. The One-Day Festival fee is $20US.
Membership is good for one year from payment date. To check your current membership status, send an email to lowflutessociety@gmail.com with “Membership Check” in the subject line. To be considered for a Festival Scholarship, send an email to lowflutessociety@gmail.com with “Festival Scholarship” in the subject line.
Write a short essay explaining why you are applying, what you hope to gain from the festival, and how you plan to use the knowledge and information you acquire.
Priority will be given to those attending the entire Festival. Maximum request is $70US which is a student membership ($30) + full Festival fee ($40), or an adult membership fee ($45) + one-day Festival fee ($20).
All Society Membership fees and the Festival Fees are non-refundable!

C Flute Players, Non-Flutist Performers, Non-flutist Guests
C Flute Players in a choir and non-flutist performers will not be required to join the Society or pay to register for the Festival.
Unregistered performers will not have access to any other events.
C flute players and non-flutist guests/performers wanting to attend Festival events can either pay $20 for a one-day pass, $40 for two days or three days. Society membership is also an option. ($85)
The Society Membership Fee and Festival Fee are non-refundable.
