Opening & Closing Choirs

Our Opening and Closing choir will be open to all low flutes players with no audition. You will be able to sign up for either or both choirs when registration for the Festival opens on December 1st.

Important Update: We are adding an earlier rehearsal on Thursday afternoon. It will be 90 minutes between 3:00 and 5:15pm. Anyone who signs up for the opening choir after Jan 9th must come to the earlier rehearsal and not the evening rehearsal. If you have already signed up for the choir and would like to come to the earlier rehearsal instead, please do.

The Celebration Choir is open to anyone with no audition and is the first event of the Festival on Friday morning April 12th. There is a mandatory two-hour rehearsal on Thursday evening at the hotel – sometime between 7:00 and 10:00 PM.  The sign-up form for the Celebration Choir will be available December 1st as part of the Festival registration. The Celebration Choir registration deadline is March 28th. All people registering for the choir must also be Society members and, pay the Festival registration fee ($150) when they sign up for the Celebration Choir. There are NO REFUNDS for Society membership and the Festival fee.

Festival registration becomes available Dec. 1st.  You will be sent PDF’s of the music to practice ahead of time and to bring with you.

Phyllis Avidan Louke, an Altus Artist, is principal flute with Tilikum Chamber Orchestra and Oregon Symphonic Band, Music Director of Rose City Flute Choir, and an active chamber musician and composer. She teaches privately, adjudicates and freelances in Portland, Oregon.

The Farewell Choir is open to anyone with no audition and will be performing the final pieces on the final Sunday program which is expected to conclude about 5 PM. There is a mandatory one-hour rehearsal during the Festival at a time yet to be determined.  The sign-up form for the Farewell Choir is part of the Festival registration and will be available December 1st. The Farewell Choir registration deadline is March 28th. Christina Steffen Is the founder and Artistic Director of the Desert Echoes Flute Project flute choir program  sponsored by the Mesa Community College in Arizona. She is also director of the MCC Summer Flute Project, a five-day summer flute intensive. Christina enjoys a diverse career as a musician and teacher.
