Sight-Reading Sessions

Join Us and Play at the Festival!

We will have a sight-reading session each day of the Festival open to all players. On Friday, it will be Paige Dasher Long, Saturday Judy Diez-d’Aux, on Sunday Karen Large. Music will be available on the Festival website for download just a few days before the Festival.  This is a play-along session and a video of the complete piece will be shared. Headphones are recommended for improved hearing.

Paige Dashner Long is a composer, arranger, conductor and performer who has presented concerts in 32 countries promoting Low Flutes. She owns one of the few double-contras in the world. Paige, an Altus Flutes Performing Artist, directs the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra in summer residence at Groton Hill Music Center in Groton, Massachusetts, and the Florida Flute Orchestra. As a low flute specialist, she has been featured on CNN’s Great Big Story, FOX News Orlando and has written several articles for Flute Talk Magazine as well as for flute association newsletters throughout the country.

Judy Diez d’Aux, Artistic Director of Les flûtistes de Montréal, has commissioned original works by composers including Peter Senchuk, Jonathan Cohen, Billy Kerr, Nicole Chamberlain, Judy Nishimura, David Roche, Richard Désilets, Ali Ryerson and Éric St-Pierre. Since 2001, she has served as the Flutist and Chamber Music Coordinator for the Assisi Performing Arts Festival in Italy. Diez d’Aux is the current Chair of the National Flute Association (NFA) Low Flutes Committee. She resides in Montréal, Québec, Canada. lesflutistesdemontreal.com and jkdflute.com

Karen McLaughlin Large enjoys performing in concerto, solo, chamber, and large ensemble settings. She plays regularly with Traverso Colore: Baroque Flute Ensemble, Tornado Alley Flutes, and the Florida Flute Orchestra. She also previously performed with the Topeka, Tallahassee, Northwest Florida, and Pensacola Symphony Orchestras. As a guest artist, she has enjoyed performing and teaching at universities in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Her performances have taken her across the United States as well as Canada and Japan.
